If not now, when?

If not now, when?

I think this is a great question to ask yourself if you’re struggling to make changes to your diet or your lifestyle. So many of us started the new year wanting to lose weight or get fitter. We then find ourselves at the beginning of spring without any real changes having been made and that’s so disheartening. Often this can be because the goals were either too restrictive, too punitive. Sometimes because they weren’t specific enough. When? How? Are really good questions to ask yourself when making changes.

Often we can find ourselves waiting for the perfect moment to take action. Monday morning, or after our holiday, but what happens when ‘perfect’ doesn’t arrive? Well our goals just get pushed further down our agenda. What if, instead of waiting for the perfect environment we choose to act now to move ourselves forward?

We tend to think of getting healthy or eating better as requiring huge lifestyle overhauls. The truth is that real progress comes from breaking down goals into smaller more achievable steps. It could be something simple such as committing to starting your day with a great breakfast or choosing water over your diet coke at lunch. Choose something that you can consistently commit to. Once you start seeing progress it’s going to give you the motivation to go on and make further changes to your lifestyle. What small step can you commit to today?

I’d like to leave you with one final thought on goals.  It’s really important not to strive for a goal that is going to immediately set you up for failure. I know, I’ve been there. I’ve created insane workout schedules where I’d promise myself I’d be up at 6am working out to Tracey Anderson DVD’s. I think it may have happened once but dont hold me to that. When I created a schedule I was able to see that I could spend 3 times a week working out at 10am with coffee beforehand. Win win. It maybe wasnt “perfect” but I was able to keep to it which was more important.

So let me know what your goals are, when you’ll be actioning them and what small step you’re going to take today to move you forward. I’d love to hear from you.
